It's now Monday evening and I'm still buzzing from the excitement of being in the studio last night.
There's something about getting together with people who share a similar passion to you, a vibe is created...or is it already there and we are just tapping into it? It's been a long time since I've been in a room, singing with a group of musicians. I've sung with guitarists as part of a duo, but the last time I was with a group of musicians would be when I was in a band in the mid to late 90's. Lots of those memories came back last night, not least because I had recorded in that studio with my band some 20-odd years previously! I had stood in that same sound booth singing an original song...a song which will be sung again tomorrow night. Back then that song was recorded onto a cassette tape and entered into a competition on the radio, this time it will be recorded digitally so that I can upload it to the internet and burn it onto CD.
Yes, I'm feeling quite nostalgic, but also in awe of how passions can't be kept hidden and ignored, they always resurface begging to be explored, cultivated and shared.
I feel I had a chance to follow my passion of becoming a singer/songwriter those 20-odd years ago, but I didn't. Did I chicken out? Was I truly ready then? I don't know, all I do know is that I'm being given another chance and I'm not letting it go by this time...
Here in these photos are some wonderful musicians who are helping me bring my songs to life. They are wonderful not only because they are talented and experienced in their art, but because they are also gracious, dedicated and most importantly, humble.
I offer huge thanks to Andy (keyboards), Todd (bass), Marc (drums) and Jesse (guitar). Also to Arnie for making us feel at home in his studio, and to Jarrett for being instrumental (ahem) in helping to bring it all together, now and 20-odd years ago.
